About the piece-

This piece is inspired by the myth of La Loba, the woman who lives in the desert and sings wolf bones back to life. In our modern society where technology seems to numb minds while issues of inequality continue to run deep, looking back to oral traditions and mythology for guidance through these issues is now more important than ever. With the recent "Me Too" movement, women across the globe are joining voices together to create a new story, one that desperately craves art and story and creativity as its medium of communication. This piece applies the ancient myth of La Loba, the Wild Woman Spirit to the modern voice of the Wild Spirit in all of us, including men. It is also a nod back to the "Maiden, Mother, Crone" cycle of a woman's life, and here I honor the crone in a halo symbolic of the Waning Crescent phase of the second half of life. Additionally, the wolf serves as an ancient symbol of the feminine spirit due to its power, dominance, and connection to the moon. I have incorporated a twist, illustrating the recently documented Sea Wolf which National Geographic is currently documenting in the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver Island. The Sea Wolf has been proven to be genetically different from other wolves, it hunts and lives solely off the sea, which I find to be a perfect symbol of the feminine spirit- connecting the sea or the womb of the Earth to an ancient spirit animal in order to find voice for our modern story of feminine transformation.
